Featured News

Stay up to date with the most relevant developments from across the textile, fashion, and innovation landscape. In this section, we spotlight milestones, success stories, and insights that showcase the progress of our network and inspire new ideas for sustainable growth.

BioFibreLoop: Towards Bio-Based Textiles

The EU-funded BioFibreLoop project has successfully spun high-performance textile fibers from a blend of lignin and cellulose — creating smooth, glossy, and strong fabrics that could replace petroleum-based materials.
Key innovations include:
>Biomimetic laser functionalization to eliminate hazardous chemicals and reduce waste;
>Bio-based textiles with hydrophobic, oil-repellent, and antibacterial properties;
>A goal to see 20% industry adoption by 2035;

Challenges remain: unlike cellulose, lignin’s properties vary by extraction method, and only basal lignin is suitable for fiber spinning. Market shifts have also disrupted supply, with many small lignin producers exiting. Still, EU support for bio-based materials is fueling optimism for new biorefineries.

Projected impact by 2035:
€8.5 billion in revenue
3,200 new jobs
Elimination of hazardous chemicals
Near-zero waste and 20% cut in GHG emissions

Katty Fashion Participates in AVANTEX Paris 2025

A member of the TCBL network, Katty Fashion, participated in AVANTEX 2025 with its 3D prototyping and zero waste solutions and joined the Day 3 roundtable on Scaling “bio-fashion” / Needs and challenges.

Virtualisation and Digitalisation: How AI Could Help SMEs

Digitalisation is playing an increasingly important role in the textile industry, especially as consumer expectations evolve and sustainability becomes a main priority. Read our latest article covering the topic to take your business to the next level!

EU Policy Update

On August 1st, the European Commission launched a public consultation and Call for Evidence for the upcoming Circular Economy Act (to be adopted in 2026).

The Act aims to:

>>Create a Single Market for secondary raw materials;
>>Boost supply of high-quality recycled materials;
>>Strengthen EU economic security while driving decarbonization;

SMEs in textiles should track this closely, as it will influence material sourcing and sustainability standards in the years ahead.
